Letter from our President

In 1975, I co-founded LimnoTech with a simple vision: do cool things with computers, work with good people and—most importantly—help save the water environment. Innocently simple, and hardly a business plan, but these “goals” have informally guided our culture and vision for more than three decades. I am proud of the important role we have played over that time in advancing technology for analyzing environmental problems and promoting better policies. I’m also quite pleased at how we have helped our clients make sound, cost-effective decisions as we worked to protect and restore the environment. But I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the absolutely top quality people I’ve had the pleasure to work with—not only our staff but our clients as well.

The field of environmental science and engineering has changed significantly over the past three decades. In the 1970s, the public was outraged by a vision of polluted waters: oil slicked rivers, floating dead fish, and pea soup lakes and estuaries. From this emerged a national commitment for clean water. At the same time, engineers and scientists working on this challenge saw new technologies and sciences emerging. LimnoTech was founded with a simple goal: to be a “player” in this exciting time of transition and advancement. I am proud to say that over these last 35 years we’ve maintained that commitment and enthusiasm, through thousands of projects in almost every state and in seven countries.

While LimnoTech certainly can’t take primary credit for national programs in clean water, I am excited about LimnoTech’s contributions to major policy initiatives and technological advances. We have worked on almost every major water issue in the last three decades, including eutrophication, toxics, wastewater, wet weather challenges, watershed management, site remediation of contaminated sediments, and groundwater pollution. Good policies, supported by the best science and technology, are the key to effective environmental restoration and protection. As our profession has advanced from pollution control to prevention, restoration, and enhancement, I am proud to say LimnoTech has helped to lead this evolution.
