Agricultural Environmental Services

As demands on limited water resources increase in the face of development, population growth, and climate change, effective land and water resource management is essential for sustainable and resilient food production in both rain-fed and irrigated agricultural systems to meet environmental, economic, and societal needs. LimnoTech is a leader in environmental issues related to agriculture. We perform detailed technical assessments and develop innovative strategies for our clients to solve water resource challenges related to agriculture.

We have a deep understanding of the agricultural industry. Our expert team has advanced degrees in agriculture, science, and engineering, along with personal and continuing connections to farming. Our projects cover a wide range of technical subjects, client sectors, and geographic scales, ranging from national studies of farming impacts to field-scale evaluations of management practices.

Our clients recognize that having a sustainable water supply for agricultural production is essential for continued growth and success. We help our clients develop strategies and tools to facilitate the sustainable production of food, fiber, and other plant and animal products while supporting economic growth and protecting water resources. We specialize in developing water stewardship roadmaps to help companies understand where and how water intersects with their business, their local water impacts, and exposure to water-related risks.

LimnoTech has conducted risk assessments for crop-growing regions, based on various indices and research on water availability, water quality, regulations, and water rights. We help companies communicate the positive impacts of their stewardship initiatives by quantifying and reporting the benefits of numerous sustainable agriculture projects.

We also partner with state agencies, NGOs, and universities when performing assessments of agriculturally dominated watersheds to advance our understanding of sediment and nutrient impacts and the means for achieving positive environmental outcomes associated with accelerated adoption of agricultural conservation measures. This work often involves developing and applying watershed models that link farm management practices to water quality outcomes in receiving waters.

Across all projects, we bring the best science, technology, and innovation to support our clients in making informed decisions about agricultural and water resource management. Our goal is to help our clients solve their most challenging agricultural problems and to empower them to make sound investments that lead to sustainable and resilient outcomes.

  • LimnoTech, USACE ERDC, GLRI, and the City of Defiance, Ohio, share in this video how a P-Optimal demonstration wetland is being used as a prototype or model. The goal is to identify wetland characteristics that promote phosphorus retention, identify potential technology limitations, and improve water quality in tributaries by reducing nonpoint source phosphorus loads from agricultural landscapes.
